Stephen Wilson Jr. Spokane reviews
Great idea, poor execution
"We were disappointed to witness this event as Singin' in the Rain is one of our favorite musicals. The inability of the orchestra to stay in sync with the film marred the enjoyment from the beginning. While it sometimes was better, there continued to be sync issues throughout, with the opening titles being the worst. The enjoyment was further reduced by the poor audio editing of the movie to remove the music, which was understandably difficult. Although the original mixes no longer exist and audio ducking methods were necessary to eliminate the original music, the editing was often heavy handed, resulting in choppy vocals that frequently missed part of the syllables. The dance numbers suffered as well, with taps and other dancing sounds being sporadic at best.
It seemed as though the orchestra had not rehearsed this show sufficiently to provide a good performance. Cracked notes, slightly late drum back beats, and even a bassist dropping their bow and almost the entire instrument were observed. We are now beginning to wonder if Stephen Wilson Jr. is capable of putting on a high-quality pops concert, as we have been disappointed at other pops events as well."
